The Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) in collaboration with Cook Defence Systems (CDS) is looking to recruit a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate for a unique, exciting and challenging project.
The project is designed to increase the service life of Armour Fighting Vehicle (AFV) tracks by improving the durability of the rubber bushes within them. The project will develop superior rubber compounds and define protocols for component design and manufacture that will increase product performance and lead Cook Defence Systems to new business opportunities.
This is a high profile project, of strategic importance to the company and represents a great opportunity for a graduate to participate in an exciting new venture.
MERI is a dynamic and interdisciplinary research institute with a highly successful record of collaborative research. It is dedicated to addressing industrial problems, both nationally and internationally, through the application of fundamental science. It comprises 4 research centres of which The Polymers, Nanocomposites and Modelling Research Centre is central to this KTP.

What we are looking for
- Experience of mechanical, chemical and physical testing of manufactured components will also be expected.
- Any experience of mechanical testing (e.g. tensile, flexural, compression and hardness) would be desirable.
You will be educated to degree level (2:1 or better) or hold a Masters or PHD level in science, technology, engineering, chemistry or a polymer related field and have an experience of materials technology gained either in industry or on a substantial project within a degree or masters course.
