Undergraduate Placement Scheme

Job description

DHL are looking for students on their placement year to join its fast paced, rapidly growing Aviation division at our sites at East Midlands Airport or London Heathrow.

In these roles, DHL Aviation (UK) Ltd wants to develop and invest in their future talent by giving real responsibility and challenges. Our placement students are empowered to take initiative, network across the business and to achieve high impact results that really make a difference to our business and customers.

The opportunity
We are looking for undergraduate students in their placement year, who have a can do attitude, passion to succeed and are capable of quickly learning on the job. You will be given real tasks and responsibilities from the outset and will be well supported by peers and senior management within the organisation.

We have placements based in our Operations department, Customs teams or working in one of our many support functions. Throughout the duration of the placement year there may also be opportunities to experience other departments.

Within Operations you should expect to be working on the ground, in the live operation or operational support departments. You could expect to be responsible for a specific area or project, with previous examples including reviewing shift patterns across our operations department, to ensure we have adequate resources to enable freight to be sorted, loaded onto aircraft and that the aircraft depart on time and to schedule.

Our commercial roles opportunities are a broad range of different environments from a company and customer involvement, such as our customs department, air capacity sales and carriers and linehaul.

When placement students join our programmes we understand that you want to learn – and we are looking for people who have a thirst for developing themselves. To support the ‘on the job’ training you will get in your placements, we have designed a training and development programme which will give you the skills and tools you need to succeed during the programme and beyond.

Those who are successful and perform to a high standard through their placement year will be considered for a place on our Graduate Scheme to commence in September 2021.

What we are looking for

At this point in time we are interested in second year students looking for a placement starting in September 2020.

DHL Aviation are looking for candidates who have a passion for the logistics industry, and can demonstrate how they work at speed, and with a can-do attitude, to support our business in getting it right first time for the customer.

  • Applicants must be in their placement year of their undergraduate degree.
