Environment Health and Safety Assistant Industrial Placement

Still recruiting throughout COVID‑19

Job description

There are three roles available in total. Two roles available in the Centre of Excellence for Sustainability (CoE) based at GSK House – Brentford and one role available in the Environment Health and Safety (EHS) team based at Ware.

The EHS team is dedicated to protecting and promoting people’s health, protecting the environment and driving sustainability in the business. The EHS team is a global support team, working locally on site. They provide comprehensive support in all areas of occupational safety, environmental protection and sustainability to GSK sites world-wide.

Our technical experts work closely with the scientists and facilities and through proactive engagement and advice ensure our sites are compliant with all regulatory and company standards, and industry best practice. We support them to act responsibly with integrity and transparency, living up to high health, safety and sustainability standards we set ourselves.

The CoE team has set ambitious goals to reduce carbon, water and waste across our value chain – from the sourcing of raw materials and the impacts of our own labs and factories, to the use and disposal of our products by patients and consumers

We know that the impact of producing our products and medicines is much broader than what we do in our own operations. In fact, a large proportion of our carbon footprint and water footprint comes from our supply chain. We view suppliers as critical partners in achieving our sustainability goals, and effective collaboration is central to that success. That is why we are working closely with them to help look at ways we can reduce our collective environmental impact. By taking a value-chain approach, we are identifying risks and opportunities right across our entire supplier network – from our supply chain operations to our procurement activity

Why work in EHS or the Centre of Excellence for Sustainability?

We're addressing our impacts on the environment and have set ourselves ambitious targets to reduce our impact on the environment by 25% by 2030.

To read more about our environmental sustainability strategy please see the ‘Our Planet’ section of GSK’s Responsible Business Supplement and on GSK.com

Get hands on experience of managing the environmental impact of complex GSK sites. Tackle challenges like managing the impact of pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment, hazardous waste disposal and air emissions from combustions activities.

Challenge yourself and others, engaging and influencing those around you to meet compliance with environmental legislation and to achieve our sustainability goals.Work globally with sites across the GSK network, providing advice, guidance and support to the business.

Be part of a large student community and get involved in organising events, taking advantage of training in soft skills, volunteer to promote GSK at science fairs and fundraising for charities.
