Job description

What does an Synthetic Biochemistry industrial placement have to offer?

The group employs state-of-art analytical facilities to identify enzymes able to carry out reactions of interest with intermediates in the various API chemical routes and has an enzyme evolution platform to enable engineering of the selected catalysts to improve kinetics properties, solvent and thermostability tolerance. A successful candidate will work across a range of techniques and will have the opportunity to contribute to enzyme panel builds, using molecular biology techniques to clone and select enzyme candidates, develop and optimise expression of recombinant enzymes as well as run HPLC/GC and/or LC-MS assays to quantify reaction products. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work on the implementation of biocatalysis for the manufacture of GSK APIs.

What we are looking for


Completed a minimum of two years of an undergraduate degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biological sciences or a related discipline. On-track to be awarded a 2:2 or higher in biochemistry, chemistry, biological sciences or related discipline.
