Technical Administrative Chemist

Job description

If you're a chemist who's happier behind a desk than in a lab, then you'll be in your element with us.

Are you looking for your next job, or are you about to graduate? Are you methodical and enjoy immersing yourself in routine admin tasks?

We're looking for a desk-based chemist to join the friendly technical team at our head office and produce legal documentation for our hazardous waste collection services. You'll use your chemistry background and, ideally, knowledge and understanding of the Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road Regulations, to assess lists of waste to produce guidance for our drivers to ensure the safe packing and disposal of hazardous waste.

You'll work to deadlines and need to be flexible at times because customers' requirements change. For example, mid-afternoon someone might call with an emergency for which you'll need to get the documentation done.

Your hours of work will be 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with one hour for lunch - a total of 37.5 hours.

What we are looking for

So, what qualities are we looking for in you? You must have great attention to detail, be able to prioritise and be a good team player. Although the job is a solo one, you'll be dealing with Chempack chemists (who inspect and assess every type of waste that enters the facility) and drivers from our nearby Ewelme Hazardous Waste Transfer Station, as well as involving yourself in the team around you and answering the phone when necessary.

Do you have a degree or A-level in chemistry (or an environmental-related discipline)?

Accepted degree subjects

  • chemistry
  • environmental science and ecology
