Trainee Business Journalist

Job description

We are looking for two curious and academically bright graduates to train into great business journalists. We want creative people who can think for themselves and are willing to learn. This is great training for people who want to become real journalists who break real stories.

Nothing is more exciting to write about than international health care services. politics, tech, financial reporting, and international reach – it has got it all.

The job entails talking to CEOs, investors and policymakers across Europe and emerging markets. You will be following up on news stories, but also developing your own ideas. You will also be looking in-depth and developing expertise in specific sectors and markets, such as, say, nursing homes, IVF or telehealth, and how they are growing internationally.

You will be trained in areas such as how to build contacts, how to write strong news stories and how to interview. Training will be mainly on-the-job, but external courses are also available, and our journalists travel to international conferences. This is a chance to join a small but committed team of experienced journalists.

Immediate start is available. We are prepared to wait for the right candidate.

What we are looking for

  • Very good written English – that means you will be a native speaker or fully bi-lingual
  • Numeracy. Candidates will be asked to take a short test to establish they are comfortable with figures
  • Outgoing personality
  • The ability to write well and fluently
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic
  • Ability to work under pressure with good time management
  • Willingness to take on board criticism of your work without taking it personally
  • The ability to get through to people on the phone

Desirable qualities:

  • A foreign language / foreign languages
