Protecting human health and the environment from the effects of potentially harmful substances. That’s a vital and influential goal. And at the Chemicals Regulation Division of the Health & Safety Executive, it’s one we’re seriously committed to. If you have the drive and expertise, this mission could be career-defining.
With the UK’s transition from the EU, you will join HSE/CRD at an exciting and challenging time. You will be part of a team that is delivering HSE objectives in support of the UK’s Exit from the European Union. With a world-class reputation for safeguarding the health and safety of people at work, HSE is adapting and evolving to meet the new challenges ahead. You will join a growing group of regulatory scientists that come together in an atmosphere where team results and team spirit inspire commitment to protecting human health and the environment. We have opportunities in a range of different teams, primarily responsible for assessing and evaluating scientific data on chemicals, biocides, detergents and pesticides to support regulatory decisions in the UK.
But, at heart, these are hands-on roles. With direct exposure to our work from day one, you’ll become a subject matter expert in the regulation of chemicals, gaining invaluable experience in regulatory science. You’ll be immersed in national and international legislation, being involved in strategies for our future following EU exit, scientific writing and regulatory decision-making.
You will join a structured training programme, which over the course of a minimum of 18 months, will introduce you to all the elements of your role, enabling you to gain in depth knowledge of the regulation of chemicals and develop valuable experience in regulatory science. As you become proficient, as early as your second year as a Band 5, you will have the opportunity to apply for through-grading to Band 4 (HSO).
To help us meet these challenges, we’re looking for ambitious Scientific Officers to join our team, find out more and apply by visiting our website
