As a CA you'll have the ability and the opportunity to explore all fields of the business world. From cutting edge technology companies to global financial centres, accountancy firms and government bodies, the CA qualification is your passport to success. If you've got an entrepreneurial streak, becoming a CA also offers the perfect foundation for starting your own business.
Qualifying as a CA gives you a wealth of expertise, and not just in accountancy and finance. You'll hold one of the most prestigious professional qualifications available, and one that's internationally recognised and respected.
To become a CA, you must train for the CA qualification. The CA qualification is comprised of three levels of exams paired with relevant, practical experience. For graduates, you enter into a training contract with an organisation authorised to train ICAS CA students. You can search and apply online for training vacancies with employers who are now recruiting for their CA training vacancies via our website becomeaca.org.uk or by clicking on the apply button.
You can train to be a CA in location all across the UK, with the majority of our students training in England and Wales.
As the first professional body of accountants, ICAS has been developing world-class Chartered Accountants for over 160 years. Currently there are thousands of students studying the CA qualification in a wide variety of organisations across the UK and in the Channel Islands.
ICAS has more than 21,000 world-class members who work in the UK and in more than 100 countries around the world. Uniquely, ICAS is an educator, examiner, regulator, and thought-leader. We regulate our members and their firms. We represent and support our members on a wide range of issues in accountancy, finance and business and we seek to influence policy in Europe and the UK, always acting in the public interest.
What we are looking for
You don’t need to have studied a degree in accountancy. What is important is that you’re a good communicator, ambitious and ready to enjoy the opportunities and financial rewards that come with having the prestigious CA qualification.
Lots of our students come straight to us to become CAs when they finish university. It doesn't matter what degree you've studied, as we don't require you to have any previous experience in accountancy or business. Our students come from varied and diverse backgrounds. All you need is a good University degree that meets our entry requirements. We welcome international students too – just check that your degree has a UK equivalent.
The graduate route to becoming a CA usually takes three years and is organised in the form of a training contract with an ICAS authorised employer (known as an ATO or Authorised Training Office). Entry requirements for training vacancies with ICAS Authorised Employers vary so it's worth checking with our individual employers.
