Learn to scuba dive and study marine biology on a remote island in The Bahamas. Anyone, aged 18-23 can join this Gap Year programme geared towards students looking to gain experience in the field of marine science. Offered each fall and Spring, students will spend six-weeks living at Forfar Field Station on Andros Island, Bahamas.
This programme will teach students (no experience necessary) how to scuba dive as they earn their PADI Open Water and PADI Advanced Open Water certifications.
Students will take classes and receive certifications for sea kayaking, wilderness first aid, and leave no trace. Students will also learn about the Bahamian culture and spend time volunteering with local nonprofits. This is the perfect opportunity to gain real life, hands-on experience before starting, or continuing, university.
- Week one: introduction to marine biology
- Week two: service learning and exploring the Bahamian culture

Programme cost: $4,999
Lodging, three meals a day, round trip flight from Nassau to Andros, ground transportation, all field trips and excursions, Dive, Kayak, WFA, and LNT certifications and instruction, and trip facilitators/environmental educators. Diving gear available includes: BCD, regulator, weights and belt. Job and resume assistance upon programme completion.
What’s not included:
Flight to Nassau, BS, health/travel/dive insurance, dive mask/snorkel/fins/wet suit, and ACA membership fees.
