Job description

Over the duration of your apprenticeship you will get to work on ground-breaking projects, alongside expert minds and become one yourself thanks to your studies at the prestigious University of Warwick.

Control Systems

As a Control Systems Engineer, you will be a key cog in the Jaguar Land Rover Manufacturing process. Your skill set will ensure that any breakdowns that occur are kept to a minimum and that when issues do arise, you can effectively problem solve to a speedy & effective resolution.

Throughout your academic studies, you will learn all about Programmable Logic Controller Software and what is required to operate robots successfully. You will be responsible for developing, updating and implementing control specifications and standards for manufacturing equipment and systems, and this will be taught to you via your degree programme.

The Apprenticeship

The Applied Professional Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 6) is a four-year programme, where you earn whilst you learn.

During Year one and two, apprentices will spend their time in off the job training provided by the University of Warwick and also within the workplace.

In Year three and four you will study specialised subjects in line with your chosen pathway. Your final year of your apprenticeship will see you complete your end-point assessment and achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship, ready for an amazing career in a permanent role within Engineering.

Specialism Modules (Year 1 & 2)

Personal Skills for Professional Excellence, Engineering Mathematics, Mechanics and Energy Methods, Electrical and Electronic Systems 1, Applied Engineering Design + Technical Operations Management, Quality methods, Workshop Skills + DFM + MMP, Industrial Digitalisation, Engineering Systems, Dynamic Mechanics & Thermofluids, instrumentation & Control, Numerical Methods for Modelling, Project Management & Leadership and CAD/CAM.

Specialism Modules (Year 3 & 4)

Advanced Quality Technologies, Productionising Designs, Mechatronics & Systems Control, Networking Infrastructure Communications and Interoperability of Systems, Sustainable Energy Systems, Industrial processes, materials for Advanced Applications, Stress Analysis, Functional Systems and Individual Business Based Project.

Following the successful completion of your Apprenticeship you could find yourself working in Powertrain or Manufacturing Engineering.

What’s required

  • GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 (C) or higher and in addition 3 additional GCSEs level 5 (C) or above to include one STEM subject or Engineering Vocational qualification level 3/ 90 credits/540 GLH or higher.
  • In addition A level Maths at grade B or higher and a second A level at grade C or above in Physics; Chemistry; Engineering or Design & Technology.

In addition to these academic requirements at the assessment stage we will also look for evidence of other qualifications, knowledge, experience or qualities – for example a third A-level or other further academic qualifications; a substantial time in employment or voluntary activity; a technical project or hobby or substantial responsibilities as a carer.

We will also be looking for you to demonstrate your passion for the role and explain your motivation for wanting to join our Applied Professional Engineer Programme as a degree apprentice.
