Redrose is looking to recruit an IT professional to develop a mobile platform that can manipulate communication flows between on-site supervisors and construction site workers. This role is a unique and exciting opportunity to grow your systems development and informatics expertise by developing a solution to capture materials usage and the trends and behaviours of workers so that Redrose can develop time/cost scenarios for the installation of Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) systems. The aim is to use this information to understand labour usage and to use this information to develop real-time situational and operational awareness and deliver real-time decision-making. Your efforts will enable Redrose M&E to reshape the business to make use of real-time decision making tools to support the re-allocation/re-scheduling of work flows for live construction projects.
This position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme funded by Innovate UK. It’s essential you understand how KTP works with business and the University, and the vital role you will play if you successfully secure a KTP Associate position.
Redrose undertake specialist mechanical (plumbing), electrical (wiring and cabling) and public health construction from building construction through to final fitting. We offer clients a full design and construction service with an in-house design team providing expert advice on which services will help clients to achieve stand out features that enhance final product and sales price.
We are looking for a well-rounded individual with a 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science and Informatics (or an equivalent subject). Ideally you will some understanding of machine architecture, machine language, data structures, software engineering, operating systems, databases, and user-centric design. Experience of Building Information Modelling (BIM) would be a distinct advantage.
Candidates without academic qualifications but relevant industrial experience are encouraged to apply. We would welcome applications from IT professionals that can demonstrate a history of developing IT systems for the construction sector or have an understanding of complete systems development life-cycle.
We do not anticipate applicants to have complete knowledge in all the aforementioned areas. We have ring-fenced a training budget to help fill any knowledge gaps to help the successful applicant grow into the role and become the specialist in developing IT systems and tools for processes within the construction sector.
Qualifications and experience requirements
- An honours degree (2.1 or above) in computer science, engineering or a related subject
- Proficient / experienced in developing software, particularly app development
- Knowledge and understanding of database design
- Understanding of the complete systems development life cycle
- Understanding of the current IT trends and their application in a commercial environment
- Evidence of networking skills and the ability to manage complex projects
