Job description

The Supportability Engineering function is responsible for assessing the impact of design decisions on the reliability, maintainability, testability and safety of our products. This requires the engineers to work closely with the design teams to ensure the opportunity for failures are minimised and the impacts of failure on: maintenance tasks; fault diagnostics/fault isolation; spares; technical publications; training; support infrastructure and safety is understood and addressed, and the support solutions developed to meet the customers operational needs.

This summer placement role will be looking to continue the development of our failure knowledge tracking and forecasting systems and modelling techniques to better predict the repair volumes and spares required in a complex support scenario with non-constant/non-random failure rate profiles. This will require the candidate to explore historical failure data, identify the underlying failure mechanisms, explore probability models and simulation techniques in order to identify how failures can be modelled through time and to take account of our previous failure data.

Key Responsibility Areas
Become familiar with existing failure and repair data, the modelling techniques used and to explore other probabilistic models and simulation techniques used in other industries (e.g. meteorology/weather forecasting).

This is an office and lab based role working full time hours for a fixed period using display screen equipment. A short period of off-site working may be possible.
