What we offer
Each year we recruit a cohort of trainees based in various UK offices, who are given all the support needed to achieve qualification as Chartered UK and European Patent Attorneys. Patent attorneys provide an essential interface between science, commerce and the law. They are at the forefront of technology in many different scientific fields, helping clients make the most of their inventions.
We run our own comprehensive in-house ‘Training Academy’, combining lectures and tutorials with mentoring and supervision from partners and other qualified attorneys. Our ‘Training Academy’ has a strong track record and our trainees regularly receive national prizes for their examination success.
What we are looking for
We recruit graduates with degrees in science, engineering, computer science or maths. We also welcome applications from those completing a doctorate, who are undertaking postgraduate research or who are working in industry.
The three main areas we recruit into for patent trainees are:
Electronics and physics
We look particularly for electronic engineers, computer scientists and physicists. We also look for graduates in other engineering disciplines, materials science or mathematics – provided they can demonstrate knowledge and an interest in electronics, photonics, solid state physics or computing.
We look for graduates with a mechanical engineering degree, although graduates in other engineering disciplines or physics will also be considered.
Chemistry and life sciences
We look for graduates in chemistry, chemical engineering or other life science-related subjects, such as biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology and pharmacology.
Working as a Patent Attorney is a unique, challenging and rewarding role. If you have the right qualifications and ambition, we want to hear from you!
