An opportunity has arisen in a fast-moving team for an engineer to develop their technical and problem-solving skills. This job role encompasses concept design and modelling simulation through to testing and manufacture, giving you the chance to experience challenges that arise throughout the lifecycle of our Warheads. The Warheads team at Lostock is part of a multi-national capability, so there is opportunity to work with colleagues from across the UK and from France, Italy and Germany.
What will you be doing?
The Warheads team offers a wide range of work activities, ranging from modelling simulation of complex high speed problems, to full Warhead trials, and a range of design challenges in between:
Support of Warhead design throughout the product lifecycle including: design definition and assessment, test equipment design, and maturity of concepts through into manufacture.
Application of engineering fundamentals including material selection, design optimisation, geometrical tolerances, manufacturing feasibility, mass / CoG inertia properties, unit production cost, structural integrity, dynamic characteristics and thermal properties.
Definition of trials documentation including safety assessments and planning. Management of trials planning logistics, to ensure trials are conducted in a timely and efficient manner
Support to, and analysis of results from explosive and non-explosive trials including testing of Warhead performance, safety and suitability for service when subjected to environmental stress throughout its service-life.
Use of advanced computer modelling techniques to simulate Warhead performance and application of computational tools to provide a user interface, manage data & interpret results.
Analysis of the modelling outputs and production of validation and performance prediction reports, including shock response spectra, parameter studies, comparison of concepts during design phase and evaluation of Warhead performance impacting multiple targets.
Support of the company’s Business Management processes including: preliminary, detailed and critical design reviews, class of difficulty assessments including technical risk, and design maturity assessments including technology, integration and system readiness levels.
Working with suppliers and sub-contractors, internal and external customers, and working alongside other functions such as programme management and procurement.
Involvement in both internal and government funded research work.

Training in the use of tools such as ProEngineer, CREO, Autodyn, DYNA, RADIOSS, Matlab, Visual Basic, in-house methods and MS Office will be provided as necessary but previous experience would be advantageous.

Qualifications and experience requirements
Ideally working towards a (minimum 2:2 honours degree or equivalent) in a technical or engineering-related discipline, such as Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical or Systems Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or Maths. Applicants with relevant post-graduate qualifications are also encouraged.
