Business Enablers Entry Scheme

Job description

It takes many different bees to protect the hive.

At MI5, we protect the UK from all sorts of threats – from terrorism, through to cyber-attacks. On the Business Enablers Entry Scheme, you’ll develop all the skills you need to take on vital roles. Everything you do will support our intelligence business.

With the chance to work across a range of areas, you’ll develop a huge variety of experience. You’ll take on corporate roles in areas such as Finance, HR, Legal or Policy. These placements will usually last for around two to three years. Afterwards, you’ll get the chance to apply for other corporate roles across MI5. Based on how you’d like to progress your career, you’ll either move between departments or specialise in a certain field.

What we are looking for

We need people with a range of perspectives, who come from all walks of life. Only then can we tackle the threats we face. So there’s no one ‘type’ of Business Enabler. All you need is strong organisational skills, an eye for detail and the ability to work flexibly. We’ll also expect you to have – or be gaining by summer 2020 - a 2:2 degree in any discipline. Alternatively, you’ll have three of more years of relevant work experience. You’ll also be a strong communicator, able to build effective relationships with a diverse range of people.

To be eligible to apply, you must meet our residency criteria. You must be a born or a naturalised British Citizen and one of your parents must be a British Citizen or have substantial ties to the UK. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for nine out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside of the UK. You will nonetheless be considered if you have, for example, served overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of Her Majesty’s Government, studied abroad, or lived overseas with your parents. You can apply at the age of 17 years and six months, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday. Discretion is vital. You should not discuss your application, other than with your partner or a close family member. Please note, you should only launch your application from within the UK. If you are based overseas, you should wait until you visit the UK to launch an application. Applying from outside the UK will impact on our ability to progress your application. Further information on our eligibility criteria can be found on the How to Apply section.

We particularly welcome applications from women, Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, candidates with a disability and LGBT+ candidates.
