National Energy Action (NEA)
National Energy Action (NEA) is a major national charity whose work to improve and promote energy efficiency brings social, environmental, housing and employment benefits. Working in partnership with central and local government, fuel utilities, housing providers, with consumer groups and voluntary organisations, NEA aims to eradicate fuel poverty and campaigns for greater investment in energy efficiency to help those who are poor and vulnerable. It currently employs 79 people, 45 based at the national headquarters in Newcastle upon Tyne, and 34 staff based in the English regions, Wales and Northern Ireland. NEA has a subsidiary company, Warm Zones CIC, which employs around 50 people.
NEA achieves its objectives through:
- research and analysis into the causes and extent of fuel poverty and the development of policies which address the problem;
- providing advice and guidance on good practice in delivering energy efficiency services to low-income customers
- developing national qualifications and managing their implementation to improve standards of training, practical work and the quality of energy advice
- campaigning to ensure social and environmental objectives are brought together under national energy efficiency programmes
- developing and managing demonstration projects in communities which show innovative ways of tackling fuel poverty and bring the wider benefits of energy efficiency to local communities
NEA has had a clear national identity and profile for over 30 years, this year the Charity celebrates its 35th Anniversary.
The charity’s head office is in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and it delivers projects across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. NEA currently comprises of six Directorates which deliver complimentary functions; External Affairs, which undertakes policy advice, development, research, stakeholder relations, partnership development and leads on income generation; Support Services headed by the programme director/deputy chief executive which manages NEA’s finance, IT, HR and business support functions; NEA Cymru and NEA Northern Ireland which manages the charity’s activities in the devolved nations; the Directorate of Development and Delivery which delivers our well established work programme activities and the directorate of special projects which delivers new and innovative streams of work with NEA members and partners using funding secured from non-traditional sources. Staff work from a number of offices, hosted premises and from home across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
