What can you expect?
As the world’s largest food manufacturer, we use a huge amount of packaging, but we are striving to make our impact on the environment as low as possible. We’re using a range of innovative materials, processes and delivery methods that will position us as a global innovator, caring about the planet and its resources. In fact, by 2025 we aim to make all our packaging recyclable or re-usable.
With sustainability high on the agenda, our packaging team are working hard to develop the most innovative end-to-end materials and process chain there is. Part of the process is analysing new materials and new ways of presenting and packaging our products. So, as a Degree Apprentice in packaging, there really hasn’t been a better time to come on-board, learn new skills and play your part in the wave of innovation that is central to our development.
Responsible for projects, problem solving, analysis and supplier management, you will get to learn and apply those skills in practical solutions as you help us pilot new initiatives. It’s a tremendously exciting four-year Apprenticeship, aiming to develop you into a packaging professional. You’ll become familiar with every stage in the process and contribute significantly to our future environmental commitments. Though the Apprenticeship is based in York or Tutbury, you may be given the opportunity to broaden your experience by working at another of our many factory sites.
Who are we looking for?
We’re after individuals who just need the chance to show how they can make a difference, add value and excel. It’s a chance for you to pursue your passion for science, eye for detail and love of working as part of a team, as you demonstrate your qualities as a true innovator.
The opportunity starts in September 2019. You will need five GCSEs or equivalent (actual or predicted) at grades 9 - 4 (or A* - C if received in 2017 or previous), which must include English and maths. sciences would be advantageous. You must also hold a minimum of 104 UCAS points upon starting the programme (due to an update in the UCAS scoring system, candidates completing qualifications before 2017, will need 260 UCAS points).

- Provide technical assistance to the factories on packaging, becoming prominent in piloting equipment and facilitating trials at pilot level
