Based in York, the Nestlé Product Technology Centre (NPTC) is part of a global network of Nestlé research centres, with the NPTC focusing purely on excellence in confectionery worldwide. The Science team at NPTC Confectionery are responsible for bringing in the scientific innovations that will take us on our journey towards tastier, healthier confectionery.
As an NPTC Science Graduate, you’ll work in a team of ingredient experts, materials scientists, nutritionists, analysts and intellectual property specialists. You’ll need an open mind-set, bringing in scientific ideas from outside as well as inside the company, and demonstrating their potential in our confectionery products. You’ll interact with a variety of technical and business functions needed to turn great ideas into reality in major brands such as KIT KAT.
What can you expect?
During the two-year Nestlé Graduate programme, you’ll have the chance to run your own innovation projects involving practical work in the lab, development kitchen and pilot plant. You might be looking at how novel ingredients and food material structures can be used to deliver nutritional improvements to our products while meeting or exceeding consumer expectations for taste and pleasure.
You’ll also contribute to larger projects, working in a multidisciplinary team including product, packaging, sensory, engineering and manufacturing specialists. You’ll be expected to document your work professionally and communicate results to a variety of stakeholders including non-technical functions. You’ll be exposed to the latest visual project management and problem solving methodologies. We have a continuous improvement mind-set and you’ll have the opportunity to join teams that help shape our future ways of working.
Throughout the programme you’ll have strong senior support and opportunities to interact with our Nestlé leadership team.
We’re looking for candidates with strong science skills in chemical or physical sciences, food science, materials science or chemical engineering. You’ll be contributing from day one to the development of tastier, healthier confectionery products, so you need to be a fast learner with the ability to apply your knowledge and skills to unfamiliar problems. You will need to be able to work both independently and with multi-disciplinary teams and have the enthusiasm and drive to deliver and communicate timely and quality scientific results.
