If you are an ambitious engineering student who doesn’t have the option of a year in industry as part of your degree, our Summer Placement Scheme is designed for you. We offer the chance to make contacts that could prove invaluable in your final year, and after graduation. As with our Placement Scheme, you’ll be able to identify projects in the department that you could use for your final year dissertation too.
It’s up to a maximum of ten weeks – at our busiest time. That means more opportunities than ever to get involved in some of our biggest, most exciting projects. That’s not to say it’ll be overwhelming. From day one, we’ll assign you a mentor to provide, support, guidance and advice during your time with us. The Summer Engineering Placement even offers the chance to make contacts that could prove invaluable in your final year, and after graduation. As with our Placement Scheme, you’ll be able to identify projects in the department that you could use for your final year dissertation too. We are Nissan Motor Manufacturing ltd (NMUK) and we are one of the biggest car production plants in the UK. Our incredible location in the North East of England gives us access not only to some of the best workforces in the UK but also direct, international transport links through the Port of Tyne. This enviable combination means we can ship 9,000 cars a week from of our world-leading manufacturing facility.
NMUK Sunderland plant is responsible for production of the Qashqui, Juke, Leaf and Infiniti Q30 models. We produce c. 500,000 vehicles a year and export to over 130 international markets. All of this is made possible for our permanent workforce of over 6,700 people, with support from additional contractors and suppliers.

Qualifications and experience requirements
- Must be studying a STEM related degree
- A good working knowledge of MS Office applications and CAD systems
