The research and development function is responsible for the identification and delivery of new products and processes, enabling the business to satisfy customer demands, access new markets, and drive profitable growth.
A vacancy has arisen in the materials and products team. Consisting of scientists, engineers and project managers, the team are tasked with developing new functional glazing for the automotive and architectural markets; for example switchable glazing.
This position requires an innovative, self-motivated individual capable of applying scientific knowledge and methodology to technical problems. Activities include both conceptual and practical tasks, involving hands-on development of prototypes in collaboration with suppliers, partners, and other business functions. Good communication is essential to ensure that results are understood across the organisation. The successful applicant will be receptive to new challenges, capable of applying their academic skills to diverse problems, and developing their knowledge of critical technologies.

The R&D function has a global spread and operates in all NSG sites. The job holder must be prepared to undertake some overseas travel, and able to work effectively with colleagues across the world. A full UK driving licence and car ownership would be an advantage due to the rural location of the site.

Qualifications and experience requirements
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in physics, chemistry, materials science or similar. They should display a passion for science and technology, a creative mind, and a desire to implement new technologies. A postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
