Established in 2005, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is a non-departmental public body responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient clean-up of the UK’s nuclear legacy. The NDA own 17 sites across England, Scotland and Wales including the Sellafield site in West Cumbria. Their role is strategic, overseeing the decommissioning and demolition of buildings and the treatment and disposal of waste, both radioactive and conventional.
Collectively the NDA are responsible for setting the overall vision, direction and assurance for the UK’s nuclear sites. The NDA’s work focuses on waste management, decommissioning, spent fuels management and research and development; they interact with a wide range of stakeholders, from Government officials and policy makers, to regulators, technical experts and members of the public.
