Job description

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) independently regulates nuclear safety and security at 37 nuclear licensed sites across the UK. They are also responsible for the regulation of transport and the safeguarding of nuclear and radioactive materials with a duty to ensure that the nuclear industry controls its hazards effectively, has a culture of continuous improvement and maintains high standards.

The nuclear industry is undergoing rapid change and ONR’s role as a regulator is vital in ensuring new nuclear facilities are designed, built and operated to the highest standards, and in a manner that improves public confidence without compromising safety or security. Also overseeing the decommissioning of nuclear sites and cooperating with international regulators their work is critical to the protection of society at large.

The Office of Nuclear Regulation is looking to sponsor graduates through the nucleargraduates programme. Upon completion of the two year programme those chosen will start employment with the Office for Nuclear Regulation to continue their career and professional development in order to become a Nuclear Safety Inspector.

Working within the ‘leadership and management for safety ‘specialism you will provide specialist support to ONR programmes on the impacts of organisational factors such as culture, leadership, organisational design etc. on the safety performance of the nuclear licensee, and to ensure that progress is made to improve matters where needed.

nucleargraduates is a ground-breaking graduate programme created by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and sponsored by organisations across the nuclear industry including Jacobs, Sellafield Ltd, Rolls-Royce, Jacobs and the Office for Nuclear Regulation amongst others. The scheme is also involved with more than 20 other companies and organisations across the industry.

The two-year programme consists of three secondments chosen by you with the guidance of your mentor. You can expect to find yourself working with Government, on-site, with the private sector supply chain and regulatory authorities. There is also the possibility of undertaking an international secondment. A dedicated mentor, assigned to you upon starting the programme, will help you plan a two-year programme unique to you and your development goals setting you on the road to charter ship.

Qualifications and experience requirements

Candidates must have an attained or expected result of 2.1 or above, Masters level preferrred, in Organisational Behaviour or Organisational Psychology

How to apply

Successful applicants will then be invited to complete online numerical and verbal tests and a video interview followed by a two-day assessment centre that will assess candidates across a range of competencies. After the selection process has been completed successful candidates will be made a formal offer on to the nucleargraduates programme.

Candidates will be subject to Office of Civil Nuclear Security (OCNS) Clearance Checks.
