National Graduate Leadership Programme - Northumbria Police

Still recruiting throughout COVID‑19

Job description

Not only will you be a fully warranted and attested neighbourhood police officer on Police Now’s National Graduate Leadership Programme, you will be developing vital skills in negotiation, problem-solving and decision-making. You will be emotionally intelligent, resilient and a leader. Every day you will be preventing criminals targeting the vulnerable and you’ll contribute to the increase in the public’s confidence in policing.

Police officers are crucial in supporting some of the most vulnerable communities across England and Wales. Not only do police officers tackle crime, but they also care for the communities; working with residents, stakeholders, charities, and institutions to make a safe and thriving area to live and work in. To achieve this, our police force must be diverse, in both thought and background to be reflective of the communities they serve.

Salary

Your salary starts when you begin the Police Now Academy.

Police officers receive a basic starting salary between £21,402 - £24,780 depending on their force.

You could also receive location allowances of up to £6,735. The basic salary of a police constable can then rise to £40,000 plus allowances in line with Home Office guidelines.

Suitability

Working hours

Police officers work varied shift patterns which gives them flexibility and freedom to maximise their time outside of work. Different to your typical working week, you’ll often receive several days off in a row.

Resilience

As a police officer, you’ll witness people in distressing situations. You may deal with vulnerable individuals, mental health issues, domestic assault and death. You may face difficult individuals and be subjected to verbal and physical assaults. Your positivity will help you make a real difference as you face these situations each day.

Impartiality

Working in a local neighbourhood you deal with people of all ages, ethnicities, backgrounds and cultures. You meet individuals whose attitudes and behaviours will challenge your own values. You must treat everyone with dignity and respect at all times.

Transparency

As a police officer you must divulge all convictions, cautions, out of court settlements, disposals, arrests and reprimands, regardless of severity.

Accountability

You’ll build trust and approval in communities by your actions and your ability to secure and maintain public respect. Upholding and enforcing the law is the primary role of a police officer, behaving with integrity and humanity.
