Graduate Software Developer

Job description

Roar Software specialise in bespoke software development, systems integration and legacy software support. We are looking to recruit a Graduate Software Developer to join our friendly team. Ideally we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible but the start date can be flexible for the right person.

We are looking for an academically talented person with experience of or, more importantly, who is willing to learn a broad range of new and old technologies. The successful candidate will be flexible, with a pragmatic attitude aligned with our “Agile” approach to software development.

Roar Software offers a relaxed working environment in modern offices and a casual dress code. We are located near Wigan and convenient for local transport. There is also ample free parking on site. The successful candidate will enjoy a close working relationship with their allocated mentor and will be working on live projects, delivering real results, from day one. All our developers enjoy spending Friday afternoons working on internal projects with the freedom to be creative and that may involve exploring new technologies and techniques.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an ambitious, growing enterprise where employee happiness remains important to us.

What we are looking for

Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about coding and relish a challenge. You will already have a good grasp of software development and be willing to learn new programming languages. While our team may work on projects individually, they are always willing to call on each other’s experience and knowledge when required so team fit is also important to us.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about coding, and ability and attitude are more important than your actual degree subject. Experience of the technologies below would be helpful to your application:

  • Unix and use of command line interfaces
  • SQL and general principles of database schema design
  • Scripting languages such as Ruby, Python, PHP and Perl
  • Object oriented development and design patterns such as Active Record
  • Browser based application development and the Model-View-Controller design pattern
  • Use of version control software such as subversion or git

Accepted degree subjects
