This is hands-on work. So, whether you’re producing, building or maintaining Rolls-Royce products, or are making and maintaining the tools we need to a high standard, you’ll be making a big impact. Throughout your apprenticeship, you can expect to train on some state-of-the-art products, equipment or machinery. All while being guided and supported by engineering experts.
What you’ll need
We’ll want to see a passion for practical engineering – you’ll need to be keen to get stuck in to real work in a factory-based environment. Numeracy is important, and you should be a great team player. You’ll have to learn fast and have the discipline to balance studying for a qualification with the demands of your role. You should have the following academic qualifications (or equivalents) too:
Three Scottish Standard Grade (grades 1-3) in Maths and English and either Physics or Chemistry.
Three Scottish Intermediate 1 (Band A) in Maths and English and either Physics or Chemistry.
Three Scottish Intermediate 2 (Band A-C) in Maths and English and either Physics or Chemistry.
Three SQA National Certificates or National 5s (grade A-C) in Maths and English and Physics or Chemistry or Engineering Science.
If you’ve already completed further education (achieving qualifications at BTEC Level 3 or above) and you’re not looking for such a practical role, we’d recommend that you consider one of our other apprentice programmes.
What you’ll get
- A competitive salary starting from £11,506 a year
- A competitive pension, and 33 days’ holiday per year (inclusive of Bank Holidays)
- Career support from day one
- Nationally-recognised qualifications

That’s why we invest so much in training our Practical Apprentices. We provide a salaried job and the support to gain nationally-recognised qualifications. More than that, with the chance to get hands-on experience with Rolls-Royce engines or products, we offer the sort of exciting, real-world exposure that you can’t get anywhere else.
Our high-performance, integrated power solutions are at the cutting edge of technology. From powering huge commercial vessels to nuclear submarines, supersonic fighter jets to highly efficient passenger planes, or rail locomotives to luxury yachts, we go above and beyond to create better. And it’s all thanks to our people. Whether they work in engineering or finance, manufacturing or project management, our 50,000-strong team work together to deliver excellence in the air, on land and at sea – to customers in 150 nations around the world.
Trusted to deliver excellence.
We recruit, select and develop our people on merit, irrespective of their race, colour, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, disability or any other characteristic.
In your first year, you’ll gain a strong foundation in the practical skills you need to work on our products with one of our approved training providers. In your second and third years, you’ll broaden and deepen your knowledge through a range of attachments within a defined business, where you’ll work with and be supported by some of our top engineers. Along the way, you’ll work towards completing your Apprenticeship framework elements, which consist of Core Skills, SVQ L2 (PEO), SVQ L3 and a Technical Certificate.
