Personal Assistant (Aide)

Job description

I am looking for bright, well-presented and motivated people to work on my team of assistants who make my busy life practical.

I am an educated professional in my thirties. I work running a small engineering social enterprise. I have a sense of humour, a can-do approach and I lead a busy and active life. I do everything that anyone else in my position does, but the difference is that I live my life with a disability that means I am extremely weak.

I use a wheelchair and I also need to have someone alongside me at all times to help me with the simple things that my disability prevents me from doing for myself. Basically, this job is to be my arms and legs. It's a role which is very varied, and you can make as much of it as you wish: there's personal care, it involves helping me as I do my job, there's cooking and stuff in my home, and I'll rely upon you to organise things so it is physically and practically possible to travel and go out with friends.

The working pattern of this job means that you live-in day and night for one-third of each fortnight and then you have two-thirds of the fortnight off duty at home. You will be paid a regular income for committing to this. During each shift you stay with me in my home, or wherever I am, to be available as and when I need help.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you if:

  • you are a new graduate wanting time to plan your next career steps,
  • you are here in the UK on a working holiday visa, or
  • you are taking a gap year before or after uni.

Currently recruiting for the following start dates:

  • September 2019
  • January 2020
  • Spring/Summer/Autumn 2020

What we are looking for

You will be organised, practical and self-motivated, with attention to detail and the ability to plan. You must have excellent interpersonal skills and be a fast learner. This role gives you the opportunity to learn important transferable skills and gives you flexibility to travel, work elsewhere or take part in other activities in your time off. You can do this job while based or living anywhere within a few hours travel of Cambridge. Minimum commitment of four months, maximum one year.

Accepted degree subjects
