We have opportunities for ambitious, curious, open-minded students to join our Commercial profession on a year-long industrial placement.

Our 12-month industrial placement programme is ideal for students looking to complete a placement during their time at university. The placement is designed to provide you with a flavour of what it is like to work at Sellafield Ltd and although you are only with us for a year, we can assure you that you will still feel you have made a difference.

As part of the Industrial Placement programme you will get the chance to take part in activities that will allow you develop your skills in line with our graduate programme and also allow you to obtain valuable employability skills and experience.

Our Commercial Placement
The Commercial profession provides a service to the whole of Sellafield Ltd. As part of our support to achieve the Site’s strategic objectives, the Commercial Directorate places and manages supply chain contracts, with committed expenditure in excess of £1bn per annum.

Typical student roles consist of being part of a close-knit Commercial / Quantity Surveying team that provides assistance and support to not only the Commercial/Supply Chain Directorate but also the project team it forms part of.

Students will receive daily on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring by experienced commercial colleagues that ensure they receive gradually increasing levels of responsibility. This includes assisting with the collation, drafting and organisation of tender documentation, drafting terms and conditions of contract, contract management, commercial governance, and liaising with/attending meetings with internal stakeholders/project functions (project management, technical, legal and safety), and the supply chain.

What we are looking for


The ideal candidates will be studying in one of the following related degree disciplines: business, quantity surveying, law, accounting and finance.

You’ll need to be on track or expected to achieve at least a 2:1 in your degree discipline and ideally will be within your penultimate year of study.
