We have opportunities for ambitious, curious, open-minded engineering students to join us in various professions on a year-long industrial placement.

Our industrial placement
Our 12-month industrial placement programme is ideal for students looking to complete a placement during their time at university. The placement is designed to provide you with a flavour of what it is like to work at Sellafield Ltd and although you are only with us for a year, we can assure you that you will still feel you have made a difference.

As part of the Industrial Placement programme you will get the chance to take part in activities that will allow you develop your skills in line with our Graduate Programme and also allow you to obtain valuable employability skills and experience.

Our Construction and Commissioning placements

Construction
A placement in the construction profession means being involved in technical solutions to site challenges and offers opportunities to work on innovative and novel systems which may not be seen outside of Sellafield.

Placement students will typically be exposed to all areas of Sellafield’s project delivery – involved in design and commercial specification as well as on-site involvement with significant construction work in a variety of areas and operational plants across the site.

Commissioning
Typically placement students will have a general split of 60% of their time in the office, writing test procedures and technical reports, planning work, analysing data, attending committees and inputting into various other project processes such as design and project support; and 40% of their time out on site/plant carrying out practical commissioning engineering tasks, such as executing tests, carrying out inspections and diagnosing and rectifying defects.

What we are looking for

Qualifications

The ideal candidates will be studying in one of the following related degree disciplines: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering.

You’ll need to be on track or expected to achieve at least a 2:1 in your degree discipline and ideally will be within your penultimate year of study.
