Alexandra — Technical Leadership - Engineering

Severn Trent

Alexandra graduated from The University of Manchester with a MEng in Chemical Engineering and has plenty of opportunity to put her degree to good use on the Severn Trent Graduate Programme

I loved the water related elements of modules that I studied while at university, so I knew that Severn Trent was a good career choice for me. It’s a FTSE-100 company in a great location, and they offer opportunities for engineers to dip their toes into many different areas, from the business and commercial side, to something more operationally or design-focused, like leakage and process efficiencies.

Being an engineer, you have high levels of responsibility at Severn Trent. You’re involved in construction of assets, giving specialist advice and you have to constantly protect the environment. I find that really exciting.

I work on so many different projects, including designing assets and working with contractors across our supply chain. On the programme you get the chance to spend time with lots of different people from different companies. The business encourages and promotes you in working towards chartership, so you can forge your own career path and develop your technical expertise. There are no limits to what you can learn about and get involved in.

There’s a great culture and a string leadership team here. Whether I’m out on-site talking to operators, or in the office working with project teams and engineers to develop strategic solutions, everyone here is supportive, friendly and loves what they do.

With new regulations coming in and the market opening up, there are lots of new challenges ahead. There’s never been a better time to join Severn Trent as an engineering graduate.
