About Shark and Marine Research Institute
We are a non-profit organisation, passionately focused on Shark and other elasmobranch research. We are based in the Great White Capital of the world - Gaansbaai, South Africa.
With shark numbers dwindling to near extinction we run a variety of ground breaking research projects in collaboration with Stellenbosch University, with the aim of obtaining government legislated protected status for our vulnerable and over exploited shark species.
We invite early career scientists and budding marine biologists to join our team and be trained up as Research Assistants by our Marine Biologist. Applicants will gain invaluable, hands on experience in the field in a variety of research techniques.
Our programme is a great way to obtain credits towards your degree (dependent on approval by your educational institution) as well as contributing to meaningful shark research. You do not need any formal qualifications to join us - just a passion for ocean and shark conservation and a burning desire to learn.
