Trainee Coatings Technician

Job description

SOCOTEC is the UK's leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, with comprehensive solutions in infrastructure and energy and environment and safety. Right now, we’re looking for a Trainee Coatings Technician to join a team delivering infrastructure services. We recognise that our people are the bedrock of our business – which is why we invest heavily in their development. Join us, and you can expect a clear route for progression, as well as first-class technical and professional training.

Your challenge
As our Coatings Testing business grows bigger and attracts more projects, we’re expanding our team and recruiting an enthusiastic Trainee Technician. It’s an opportunity to learn and gain experience right from day one. To begin, you’ll perform laboratory tests such as wet paint analysis. As you gradually build your skills with the help of our expert team, we’ll introduce more responsibilities, from desk-based work, to site visits with clients. If we think you’ve got potential, we’ll even provide the support for you gain your NACE and ICorr certifications. But first you’ll need to show us that you’ve mastered all the basics. These include observing health, safety, environment and quality regulations, writing technical reports and working in a professional, accurate way. And of course, you need to be keen to learn and proud to provide an outstanding service. In return, we can offer you a varied, hands-on role, where you’ll work with an array of clients and see your career evolve.

If you’re the person we’re looking for, you can expect generous holidays, a company pension, high street shopping discounts and a promising future with SOCOTEC.

Think you’ve got what it takes to add value to our success?

What we are looking for

If you’re interested in science and engineering, this could be the first step on the path to an exciting future. To join us, you’ll need at least GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in science, English and maths. Further study in science or engineering would be an advantage, but first-class people skills will be much more important. It’s vital that you have the confidence to deal with clients in a professional, proactive way. And, as well as clear communication, you’ll need good organisational skills. We’ll give you the freedom to manage a busy workload and make sure that deadlines are met. Finally, we’ll be looking for a full driving licence and the flexibility to work away from home occasionally: from time to time, you’ll be visiting clients’ sites in one of our SOCOTEC vehicles.
