As an English language teacher working between 16-25 hours per week for a period of 10 months, you will be responsible for planning and leading fun and engaging lessons that focus on practicing spoken English with large classes of Chinese students ranging from kindergarten to university level. Your school will provide you with teaching materials and guidance, but you will be encouraged to use your imagination and creativity to make your classes special. Depending on the age and ability of your students, you will have a Mandarin-speaking assistant to support you in the classroom.
Our extensive network of partner schools across China means that our teachers have the chance to work in large metropolises such as Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing, or smaller cities like Jinan, Suzhou and Guiyang. Applicants are given the chance to express preferences in terms of location and school type during the application process.
Working in a Chinese state school gives teachers plenty of opportunities to travel both in China and further afield during weekends and national holidays. Our teachers’ visas allow them to come and go from China like the locals and the generous salaries offered by schools enable them to put money aside for exciting adventures during the week-long break in October and the long winter vacation. Each year a large percentage of our teachers travel to exciting locations across China and Asia, including Zhangjiajie, Shangri-La, Guilin, Mongolia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar!
Visit our website and social media to see where this year’s teachers are visiting.
Teaching in China is a valuable experience that opens up a range of possibilities and often leads people down interesting career paths. A large percentage of our alumni have gone on to do a second, third and even fourth year in China, either teaching or in a different industry. Others have returned to their home countries to begin exciting careers in finance, the public sector and management roles, to name a few.
We believe that our teachers are the foundation of our success and we attach great importance to providing each and every one of them, both past and present, the opportunity to expand their skill set, boost their CV and earn a bit of extra money by taking on part-time roles in writing and vlogging. We place high value on helping our teachers before, during and after their placements and use our large and knowledgeable alumni community to help our teachers to network, find new opportunities and keep in touch with all things China.
