Summer Teacher in China

Job description

Spend a summer teaching English in China and get a taste of life in this fascinating country. Whether you wish to pursue a teaching career or not, our Summer Internship placements will help you gain highly desired transferable skills and international work experience without the need for prior teaching experience or knowledge of Mandarin!

As a summer intern, you will be responsible for planning and teaching fun and engaging lessons to students aged between 7-15 at a summer school from 9am – 5pm, 5 or 6 days per week. Your school will provide you with guidance and resources, however we encourage our interns to use their imagination and creativity to create educational games and activities that make their lessons memorable.

Each year we send a number of interns to our partner camps, meaning that you will get the chance to meet and work alongside like-minded people. Though you will be expected to adhere to an intensive schedule, you will have long lunch-breaks and the evenings to explore and socialise with your fellow interns.

Duration, location and benefits

Our internships run in three different locations across China and last between 2-7 weeks. Applicants are given the chance to express preferences in terms of location and internship duration during the application process.

Interns will receive a monthly allowance of around £140 during the placement as well as the following:

  • Pre-departure orientation Day
  • Airport pickup
  • Food and accommodation (shared hotel room or apartment) during placement
  • 1200 RMB allowance per month
  • Access to our lesson plan library and member’s area
  • Private Facebook group with all participants
  • Former teacher ‘buddy’ for help and advice
  • Ongoing in-country support
  • Visa support and guidance
  • Reference on request

Travel opportunities

Each year a large percentage of our summer interns choose to travel before or after their teaching placement with other participants and make the most of the time remaining on their visas. Travel around China is affordable and quite straightforward, so many of our interns have been able to visit places such as Shanghai, Beijing, Xi’an and Chengdu during their trip.

Upon enrolment onto our summer internship programme, you will receive access to our online member’s area which contains travel guides written by our teachers, covering several exciting destinations.

£349 that covers: free food and accommodation during stay in China, London training day, help with lesson planning, contact person in China
