Merchandising & Buying European Graduate Programme

Job description

Are you ready to discover a new way of working? Is the offer of becoming a force behind the buying and selling of great products, out in the open market, your idea of awesome?

We have an annual global turnover of over $39bn* and our business is growing. Merchandising and Buying are two areas that define our business and are vital to our success.

Responsibility from the start

Your journey will begin in the merchandising team, where you’ll learn our business in detail. You’ll be taught to drive results in an entrepreneurial way, from day one. After a comprehensive induction and training plan, that includes classroom and practical workshops, you’ll begin to understand the fundamental partnership between merchandising and buying. This relationship is key to delivering value to our customers online and in store.

You’ll be part of one of our wide-ranging product category teams, growing your knowledge and developing strong business relationships. As you progress within Merchandising you’ll develop the relationships and advanced skills necessary for making decisions that contribute to profitable sales. You’ll be supported by a capable network; that includes your managers, mentors and ‘team buddy’ throughout.

Where can my career go?

We’re an ambitious business with exciting expansion plans. We believe in nurturing talent, and view everyone as a potential leader of the future. You’ll be empowered to make decisions from the outset and learn quickly in our fast-paced environment. Acquiring the skills needed to perform these early roles, sets you on the path to become a great Merchandiser or Buyer in the future. You’ll gain experience across the business with opportunity work in a number of different product areas.

And you’ll build relationships with lots of different Merchandisers and Buyers – it’s the best way to learn what we do, and how we do it.

You will drive your own development with full support along the way.

Start date: July or September 2020

What we are looking for

  • A degree in any discipline
  • Curiosity and passion for our business and retail
  • Able to build strong and trusting relationships
  • Ability to think outside the box and take risks
  • Comfortable admitting your mistakes and learning from them
  • Great communication skills
  • Sharp commercial thinking and analytical skills
  • Flexibility to thrive in a constantly changing environment where decisions happen quickly

If you have European language skills – particularly German or Polish – that would be a plus. And if you’ve lived and worked in mainland Europe, even better. In a business like ours, all the above assets are great to have.
