Job description

So you want a career in accounting?

But what type of accountant do you want to be? Do you want to work in a particular industry? Do you want to work with exciting start-up companies? Large blue-chip corporations? Specialise in Automotive, Energy or Agriculture sectors?

One of the great things about working in accounting is the variety of work and the different types of people and businesses you get to work with, but initially all that choice can be a bit daunting.

UHY Hacker Young is a great place to start, as we’re big enough to work in the majority of industries, offering the full spectrum of accounting services, with teams around the country that will help you throughout your training, and steer you towards a truly rewarding career.

Our people provide business critical advice in a commercial and pragmatic way, harnessing the power of our collaborative partners and our passionate teams. We welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds and simply look for people who share our passion and enthusiasm to ensure that our clients flourish.

The programme lasts two years during which you will work towards your ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) certificate. Upon successful completion you will then have the opportunity to complete the ACA professional qualification.

Under our CFAB qualification, you will be given early responsibility from day one and can expect exposure to clients incorporating a wide diversity of work and various challenges that will help you develop the skills you need to succeed as an accountant.

We’ll support you in every way we can with high-quality training focusing on both technical areas and soft skills, including effective communication, presentation and negotiation skills. We will assign you a personal mentor who will support you where necessary and ensure you are happy.

We’ve put together a day in the life of an accountant to give you a feel for what it’s like working as accountant.

When people think of training, the work experience, with its on-the-job learning, can be overlooked. But actually seeing clients’ businesses first hand, and benefiting from the advice and guidance of more senior staff as you serve those clients, is more important to your professional development than any amount of class room time. And we think the work experience here is pretty good.
