Management Candidate Programme

Job description

We know how to grow people fast to expand their horizons.

Last year, across the 24 markets in which we operate around the world, over 1,000 recent graduates joined the UNIQLO Management Candidate programme. This globally coordinated scheme was launched in 2000 to grow future retail business leaders. Today, hundreds of our leaders from Senior Managers to Executive level across functions are former graduates like you who started their journey on the UMC programme.

What will you be doing?

Month 1 to 3: Customer Advisor:

Wear your sneakers and be ready for action.

You learn, first-hand, how to maintain shop-floor standards, handle deliveries and work alongside a diverse team with the shared mission to offer a unique shopping experience to our customers.

Month 4 to 6: Supervisor:

Now that you know what it takes to appeal to customers, you are ready for some managerial responsibility. You supervise and manage the performance of a small team and an area of the shop-floor.

Month 7 to 12: Assistant Manager:

Building on your hands-on experience of the shop-floor, it is time for you to take on mind-stretching business challenges. You are responsible for maximizing sales and profit, buying inventory for the store and managing and developing your team.

Your success matters, so..
Throughout the 12-month UMC scheme, you will receive professional training at our head offices on topics ranging from company culture to store layout, buying, P&L, people management, and more.

Your store manager and trainers will monitor your individual performance through weekly evaluation and feedback-action plan sessions.

You will gain exposure to senior leadership and get the opportunities to share your ideas of how to further accelerate our business and drive positive change in local communities during store walk-throughs, country strategy sessions and company conventions.

12 months to undertake several roles and involve yourself in various fields of expertise will go-by in a flash. These learnings will be the foundation of your exciting future at UNIQLO!

Where could the UMC programme take you?
Joining the UMC programme offers so much more than the simplistic preconceived view of what it takes to work in retail.

You are becoming a key player in the success story of one of the top 3 apparel groups in the world.

Our size and expansion mean that your career opportunities are as diverse as your own aspirations, hard work and abilities. Our quarterly evaluation and bi-annual promotion rounds are here to ensure we understand your dream and work together on how to get you there over time.

The first milestone is to prove your business capability by independently managing a multi-million (£ / €) store, leading our focus on sustainability while gaining the support you need from marketing, merchandising, HR…

Show us you can lead to win
We are big fans of growing talent through geographic and functional rotations; these have proved to provide powerful opportunities to allow you to confront and resolve challenges with a new set of customers, stakeholders and team members. Former UMCs in Europe have gone on to manage a variety of stores including flagship stores, opening in new geographies/markets, or heading-up HQ departments.

We are the fastest growing amongst the top three apparel retailers in the world. What will you be?

We have opportunities in France, UK, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Spain and Italy, and you can choose which one(s) suit(s) you best.

What are the benefits?

  • Competitive package including guaranteed bonus for 12 months
  • Profit share scheme
  • Annual leave (number of days varies based on local legislation)
  • 30% discount when buying clothes from any of Fast Retailing Group’s brands
  • Giving back to community scheme
