Management Candidate Programme

Job description

Over the next two or three years we are looking to double the number of UNIQLO stores in Europe. We’re looking for ambitious graduates who have a drive to succeed to join our growing team and we’re keen to receive applications from both recent and experienced graduates for the Uniqlo Management Candidate Programme.

What is the Uniqlo Management Candidate Programme?
The Uniqlo Management Candidate (UMC) programme is 18 month intensive retail master class, designed to equip our next generation of business leaders with the skills to become a Store Manager, at the Japanese standard of retailing. We believe that to be an effective Store Manager, you have to start with the basics, and earn the confidence of the teams you will later go on to manage. It is not for those afraid of challenges; it is a rigorous introduction to life on the shop-floor that will provide you with the foundations with which to build a rewarding and varied career.

What will I be doing?
For the first three months you will work as a customer advisor, learning to deliver excellent customer service, and understand the basic principles at the centre of Uniqlo’s mission and vision in store operations.

During the next three months, you will gradually take on more managerial tasks (for example staff schedules, training plans, stock ordering and shop-floor management). Once you have mastered this, the next 12 months will see you work as an Assistant Manager, where you will be simulating the role of a store manager.

Your learning will be supported with structured training, delivered by the Fast Retailing Management and Innovation Centre, with regular sessions to top up your knowledge and leadership skills.

How far can I go?
As a business leader, you will become a key player in Uniqlo’s European expansion; starting by running a multi-million pound store and the management and development of a large team of people. You will also work closely with our headquarters, the “Store Support Centre”, to deliver local marketing, merchandising, HR and E-commerce campaigns, which will add breadth to your expertise.

Following this, our UMCs have gone on to open stores in new markets, manage our London and Paris Flagship stores, and have been fast tracked onto our internal global leadership programmes. Both the COO for the UK and the CEO for Europe started their careers at Uniqlo on the UMC programme, so how far you can progress is down to you.

Should I apply?
If you enjoy working in a fast-paced, people oriented environment; if you are looking for a lot of responsibility and thrive under pressure; if you are ambitious and goal oriented, and are looking to build a career with the third largest retailer in the world, then the UMC Programme is the right programme for you.
