Asda Technology Apprenticeship

Still recruiting throughout COVID‑19

Job description

Technology at ASDA is so much more than just keeping the checkouts working!

We are excited to offer three roles, starting in September 2021, which are ideal if you have left school in the past couple of years, have a real passion for technology and want an opportunity to be part of a business that touches the everyday lives of millions, in store and online.

Join a team of over 400 colleagues in our growing tech department who are working on projects like Voice Recognition Technology, App and Web Development, Data insight and Analytics, Robotics, Image Recognition and In Store Experience technology. And help shape our digital future.

Our Technology Apprenticeships are designed to give you a real deep-dive into a technical specialism, as well as all the ongoing training and support you need to develop to your full potential. That spark of potential we see in you is far more important to us than any previous experience or qualifications.

About the Apprenticeships

Two apprentice roles: Level 3 Software Development Technician within the Apps Engineering team, progressing onto Level 4 Software Developer or Level 4 Software Tester

Problem solving, using your own initiative and the ability to work with lots of different people are the big skills to have here. You'll be learning to implement and test code, learning about all the stages of the software development cycle. You'll also be learning about the business context for software development, and, of course, the end user.

Our Applications Engineering team has the feel of a small software house but with all the advantages of being part of a massive business. With big ambitions, we want our apps to be market leading. You can be part of that here, putting the software you develop or test into the hands of millions.

One apprentice role: Level 3 Infrastructure Technician within the Service, Security & Infrastructure Team, progressing onto Level 4 in Cyber Security

Our Service, Security & Infrastructure (SSI) team look after our core technology infrastructure, our service teams and our cyber security team. As we become increasingly technology enabled across everything we do, these areas have never been more important.

Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills are really important here. You'll be learning about networks, Cloud and Cloud Services, systems maintenance and disaster recovery.

You'll also be supporting internal and external customers, troubleshooting non routine problems, setting people up on systems and talking them through how to use them most effectively.

On all apprenticeships, once you have completed your Level 3 qualification, you'll be able to study for your Level 4.

About You

Of course, having a real interest in tech is a bit of a given, but that doesn't mean you need to have any previous tech experience. A love of problem solving is the real super skill we're looking for. Someone who is curious, open to new ideas, enthusiastic and has the commitment needed to balance learning and working.

We're very open-minded about where you might be right now, however we do look for a minimum of 5 GCSE grades A to C or 9 to 4, including English and Maths.
