Projects Abroad

Gap Year Opportunities

Job description

Projects Abroad is the leading global organiser of overseas voluntary work placements. Our projects run year-round and are incredibly flexible – you can even volunteer abroad for as little as two weeks. With over 700 staff worldwide, volunteers will benefit from the support and back up that Projects Abroad provide both at home and overseas.

Projects Abroad also offer professionals the opportunity to utilise their skills through a new initiative called Projects Abroad.

With placements in Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe and the South Pacific; volunteers can enjoy adventurous foreign travel and make a positive contribution within a developing country.

We have a huge variety of projects available, including:

A Teaching placement is ideal for anyone wanting to make a positive contribution to communities across the developing world. No teaching qualifications are necessary and you do not need to know how to speak the local language. All that is required is a good level of spoken English and an enthusiasm to teach!

A Care placement offers volunteers the chance to work in either orphanages or care centres with children and adults from underprivileged backgrounds. In some destinations this will require caring for street children and people with varying mental and physical disabilities. No previous experience or qualifications are needed, simply a passion to care for those less fortunate than yourself.

Projects Abroad works across the developing world on a wide variety of different conservation projects. You may find yourself scuba diving and surveying local marine life in Cambodia or Thailand, working in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest in Peru or helping to protect numerous endangered species in the Himalayas.

Volunteers work together towards a common goal in preserving the ways of life in local communities. The people you meet will be just as enthusiastic to learn about your country as they are to teach you about theirs; offering you a first- hand experience.

You will run fitness sessions and coach competitive games and tournaments. In doing so, you will help foster local talent whilst improving the quality of life for local communities.

Medicine and Healthcare

The placements we provide are suitable for people of all levels of experience, across the fields of Medicine, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Midwifery, Dentistry, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Public Health.

Projects Abroad offers Elective placements in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. We tailor placements to meet the needs of students.

Volunteers can choose to work either on a Print Journalism placement or on a Broadcast placement.

A Projects Abroad Business placement is designed to give volunteers hands-on experience working as part of an overseas company. Daily responsibilities may include activities such as contacting clients, researching for current or future projects, creating portfolios and attending meetings.

Law and Human Rights

As a volunteer you will become part of a legal team providing advice and support to individuals, businesses and community organisations. You could find yourself focussing on child trafficking in Ghana, domestic violence in South Africa or real estate law in China.

Veterinary Medicine and Animal Care

Our Veterinary Medicine placements are ideal for those considering a career as a vet and looking to gain work experience. Alternatively, if you simply love animals but are looking for a more general role, we have several animal care projects to suit you too.

Language Courses
With help from our language teachers, you will improve your speaking, reading and writing skills through one-on-one tuition and small group sessions. There will be plenty of opportunity to practice what you have learned whilst spending time with your host family and fellow volunteers.
