Job description

Our Electrical Building Services Engineers apply their specialist skills to buildings projects across the globe. We offer our clients a broad spectrum of expertise and consulting services in, but not limited to, the following types of developments:

  • Commercial and residential developments
  • Tall buildings
  • Universities, colleges and schools
  • Hospitals and healthcare buildings
  • Laboratories and research facilities
  • Transport projects, including airports and rail stations
  • Sports facilities and stadia
  • Theatres and performance venues
  • Museums and art galleries
  • Large-scale industrial and manufacturing facilities
  • Data centres

The role
We are currently recruiting Graduate Electrical Engineers to join our multi-disciplinary design teams across the UK. As well as an IET accredited training scheme to support you towards obtaining professional status we offer excellent training and development opportunities to our staff. We pride ourselves on our extensive support network and our strength in numbers. Typical responsibilities could include:

  • Design of electrical infrastructure in and around buildings projects
  • Close collaboration with engineers of other disciplines
  • Working as part of a wider professional team, e.g. architects, quantity surveyors, planners, contractors
  • Attend and participate in stakeholder meetings
  • Client and/or contractor liaison
  • Site visits
  • Support through the construction phase of a project
  • Technical report writing
  • Use of Revit and 3D modelling software
  • System design and drawing production, e.g. resilient power systems, fire system design, cable containment design, security system design, earthing and lightnight protection design
  • Design calculations, e.g. lighting design, cable calculations, demand assessments, and network analysis and coordination studies

You will provide support to team members to deliver an effective and professional service to our clients. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will be working alongside experts from many disciplines, including structural, mechanical and environmental services engineers, acousticians, fire engineers as well as external collaborators including architects and quantity surveyors.

Our projects often require us to have a presence on site or to work closely with our clients in co-located offices. This means that it is helpful to us if you are sometimes able to work at other locations in the UK, depending on the needs of our projects.

Person requirements

We need our Graduate Electrical Engineers to demonstrate drive and motivation, a willingness to learn about our sector, and a desire to deliver an excellent service to our clients. As such, we are looking for the following qualifications, skills and attributes in you:

  • Analytical and problem solving ability
  • Communication – verbal and written
  • Presentation skills
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Understand the needs of our clients and collaborators
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and an ability to learn new software
  • Enthusiasm for a career in building design, underpinned through a knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering
  • Organised approach to planning work and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrate a creative and inquisitive approach to problem solving
  • Seek to improve existing ways of working, by finding efficiencies in processes
  • The aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
  • Be flexible to the needs of the business, and changes to project plans
  • Be dedicated to the delivery of projects, the development of the team and business as a whole

Qualifications and experience requirements

  • Preference for a Masters degree in electrical, architectural, general or building services engineering, or engineering science, at 2.1 or above, however strong Bachelors degrees in these subjects will also be considered
  • Studying, or have studied, an IET, CIBSE or Engineering Council accredited course
  • Candidates without a Masters level qualification will be expected to discuss routes to professional registration at interview
