Nissan believe that Health and Safety is equally as important as Quality, Cost and Time, and as such are committed to risk reduction with a goal of zero injuries. The Company recognises its responsibilities under Health and Safety legislation and takes all reasonably practicable steps to ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees, contractors, site visitors, the general public and any other person who may be affected by its activities.
We do this through our Zero Injuries Programme, which covers all functions and levels within the Company, supported by the Health & Safety Department.
To support these activities the Safety Engineers come from a range of backgrounds. These include internally from Production, Maintenance and Engineering and externally we have employed specialists with fire, transport and lifting experience.
- Provide general H&S advice
- Support new machinery installation and commissioning
- Interpret and advise on H&S legislation and standards
- Carry out Risk/COSHH/Fire Assessments
- Carry out shop floor audits
- Provide support to a team of H&S Engineers
Nissan Motor Manufacturing Ltd (NMUK) is one of the biggest car production plants in the UK. Our incredible location in the North East of England gives us access not only to some of the best workforces in the UK but also direct, international transport links through the Port of Tyne. This enviable combination means we can ship 9,000 cars a week from of our world-leading manufacturing facility.
Nissan Sunderland plant is responsible for production of the Qashqui, Juke, Leaf and Infiniti Q30 models. We produce around 500,000 vehicles a year and export to over 130 international markets. All of this is made possible for our permanent workforce of over 6,700 people, with support from additional contractors and suppliers.

Qualifications and experience requirements
- Must be studying a STEM related degree
- Are able to partake in a 12 month placement as part of their course
