Manufacturing Systems Engineer

24 month fixed term post based at the AMF Precision Engineering premises in Wirral but employed by Liverpool John Moores University.

AMF Precision Engineering is a leading technology subcontract manufacturer that specialises in precision engineering solutions. AMF Precision Engineering and Liverpool John Moores University have collaborated to run a Knowledge Transfer Partnerships project with the objective to develop an innovative, flexible manufacturing product life cycle management (PLM) system, which will combine technical innovation with a comprehensive knowledge transfer programme to bridge into the 4th industrial revolution.

What we are looking for

We are looking to appoint a graduate to run this project. The skills we are looking for include:

  • Familiarity with applying data analytics and processing to real-world problem and data (experience with manufacturing data is ideal)
  • Good understanding of statistical techniques such as regression and classification.
  • Experience within version control of software and integrating new tools with legacy software/processes
  • Solid knowledge of spreadsheets, tools and plugins (especially MS Excel)
  • Able to nurture research in a practical application.
  • Interest within the emerging Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) & areas of ‘big data’
  • Good numerical, communication and report writing skills, and able to assimilate and present data with accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • 2:1 or above in computer science, statistics, data science, applied mathematics or comparable course with a strong, data heavy element
  • Good programming skills including Java or R or Python
  • Experience within version control of software and integrating new tools with legacy software/processes
  • Solid knowledge of spreadsheets, tools and plugins (especially MS Excel)
