The Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION) is the UK’s longest established and respected higher education institution and thought-leader in nutritional therapy and lifestyle sciences. This is an exciting time at the Institute as we look to grow and develop new programmes & awards.

This a new position within a growing marketing team in an established institution and a great opportunity for a recent graduate to play a key role in supporting student recruitment and to manage the social media content plan.

You will support the Admissions Officer to deliver enrolment targets for all ION programmes and will take a pro-active role in the follow-up and conversion of students applying for academic programmes, working closely with the Admissions Officer in achieving this goal.

The successful candidate will support the Marketing & Communications Manager with the implementation of the Marketing Strategy by taking the lead in managing the Institute’s social media outlets as well as supporting the wider content provision. Working across teams you will help in the creation of films and graphics for better engagement. Overall purpose of job

To implement the Institute’s overall student recruitment and marketing strategy by generating leads and converting them into applicants and enrolled students.

To manage, plan and create content for the day to day social media platforms for the organisation and to use analytics to make informed decisions about the type and timing of messages for each platform to achieve the most effective results.

Key tasks and accountabilities

Student recruitment

  • Work with the Business Manager, Marketing & Communications Manager, Admissions Officer and other relevant staff to reach agreed annual student recruitment targets.
  • Handle all enquiries in a timely, courteous and helpful way; these may be by telephone, email, letter, fax or in person.
  • Ensure clear measures are in place to report against agreed recruitment targets and the marketing tactics that deliver them through effective use of Institute CRM systems, ensuring information relating to applications and admissions is up to date always.
  • To be involved in the organisation and delivery of recruitment events, such as open days, exhibitions and trade shows
  • To maintain, update and keep abreast of own professional knowledge/sector wide issues relating to areas particular to the role and to share best practice and train other colleagues as necessary.
  • To contribute to the evaluation and development of the University’s student recruitment activities.

Student admissions

  • Manage the admissions processing of all programmes in close liaison with courses administration and academic departments, applying agreed criteria to make admissions decisions consistently and fairly.
  • Process incoming applications for all programmes, checking qualifications, the validity of decisions and authenticity of results.
  • Monitor the responses of applicants to decisions and provide data to faculties and departments on applicant status and workflow.
  • Ensure that correct procedures are followed when dealing with fraudulent applications, applicants with criminal convictions and under-age applicants.
  • Ensure that correct procedures are followed when dealing with international students requiring visas in accordance with UK systems for immigration.
  • Liaise regularly with both academic and administrative staff.

Marketing

  • Responsible for planning social media content
  • Assist with the production and distribution of publicity materials and updating of web pages.
  • Writing and posting engaging content across all platforms
  • Work with colleagues to write blogs and content for social media, in particular our Optimum Nutrition magazine and monthly newsletter.
  • Creating awareness about our brand and turn them into prospects
  • Reaching out to influencers for content and engagement
  • Answer messaging across all platforms and liaise with colleagues
  • Report analytics on a monthly basis and make recommendations for actions
  • Ensure the messaging meets our social media strategy and brand guidelines
  • Supporting the Marketing and Communications Manager

Normal hours of work are Monday – Friday 9am – 5.30pm. Some weekend and evenings required for events

What we are looking for

  • First degree or equivalent that demonstrates an understanding of marketing principles.
  • Demonstrable experience in day to day posting and management of social media content (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn and other social media platforms)
  • Previous experience in an office or customer service-based environment (desirable)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills, in particular customer service
  • The ability to work on own initiative and to deadlines
  • Flexibility, the ability to work as part of a team; to manage competing deadlines and identify team priorities
  • The ability to analyse and interpret data
  • Planning, editing and copywriting content and blog posting experience
  • Ability to write clear, effective and engaging content in English
  • Use of a social media management scheduling tool eg; Hootsuite (desirable)
  • A positive, facilitative approach to colleagues, enquirers, applicants and students
  • Enthusiastic, committed and proactive in approach to all aspects of your work
  • Confident with media and relationship building
  • Self-starter and motivated
