Job description
The postholder will work as part of a screening team of scientist undertaking virology diagnostics for schools and clinics across the UK. The postholder will be responsible for running pre-defined RT-PCR protocols, data collection, documentation and delivery of correct results within allocated timeframes.
These set out how key responsibilities will be achieved
Molecular and Data Analysis
- Handle clinical Samples from COVID-19
- Perform RNA extractions from swab samples and report on their results
- Deliver quality results by the efficient use of standards and controls
Health and Safety
- Comply with all established laboratory standards and adhere to all health and safety procedures
- Contribute to a safe and secure laboratory environment
- Ensure that you work to good laboratory practice (GLP)
- Follow and contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and risk assessments, instigating review processes when necessary
- Responsible of day-to-day activities working independently as well as collaboratively in accordance with laboratory procedures and protocols
Data Management
- Responsible for security and data confidence
- Responsible for accurate data storage for all testing performed as mandated by the standard operating procedures
- Maintain accurate documentation of all laboratory work as well as methods, sample details and results
- Record experimental data generated promptly and accurately and in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures, policies, guidelines and best practice
General
- Liaise and work collaboratively with other team members
- Actively participate and attend team meetings
- Ensure sufficient communication with the clinical team to allow a smooth-operating screening department
- Ensure laboratory equipment maintained and stocked by ordering laboratory supplies and undertaking regular maintenance
- Ensure continuous professional development by keeping up to date with all technical knowledge and skills in line with current best practice
