Cranfield have an exciting vacancy for a Senior Technical Officer - Materials Characterisation, with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) experience. This important role provides the vital technical support for the materials characterisation and research facilities on the Cranfield campus, an area which has recently received approval for significant investment. The role provides effective analysis services, assists with laboratory management and oversight in matters of both health and safety, environmental compliance and effective maintenance scheduling. It will also involve developing, controlling and managing budgets related to the operation.

What we are looking for
You will need to be educated to HNC/D or higher in an engineering discipline and/or have relevant technical experience aligned to the candidate brief. As the post holder will manage users, suppliers and third parties as necessary to ensure safe and efficient operation of the laboratory facilities, strong organisational and communication skills are important. Also key are the abilities to use your own initiative, have a responsible attitude to both team and individual working, and be able to remain calm under pressure.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience of scanning electron microscopy and will help manage the operation of SEMs, and associated equipment, in support of research, liaising with students, researchers and academic staff.
