Love the idea of being part of the police family but don’t want to quit your day job? Becoming a volunteer Special Constable gives you the chance to use your skills and life experiences in a brand new way, while making a real difference to the lives of others.
As a fully trained Special Constable you'll wear the same uniform and have the same powers as our regular officers. And like our full-time cops, you'll be responding to 999 calls, making arrests and getting stuck in at the heart of the action.
You can join us as a Special by giving as little as four hours per week of your spare time but every shift comes with a new challenge. You’ll often be the first person on the scene of a traffic incident or burglary, you’ll be fully trained to handle these situations and make the right decisions. Knowing you’ve had an impact on the lives of others can be hugely rewarding and a fantastic opportunity to develop skills you never knew you had.
What we are looking for
We are looking for many of the same personal qualities in Specials that we look for in regular police officers – integrity, honesty, tact and communication skills. We are looking for individuals who thrive on variety, extensive public contact and a high level of personal responsibility. Make sure to read our full eligibility criteria before you apply.
No previous experience in law or policing is required.
We ask that you are educated to level 3 (A-Level, NVQ or BTEC) or can demonstrate relevant customer service experience within your application.
