Course content

High capacity fibre optic transmission systems, Fibre grating technology, Fibre optic sensor systems, Biomedical photonics, Planar integrated optics, Optical networking, All-optical switching and processing, Microwave photonics, Nonlinear optical devices and interactions, Optical solitons, Ultrafast optoelectronics, Femtosecond optics, Bit-serial processing techniques, Dynamics and stability of non-linear coherent structures.

Department specialisms

A centre of excellence for experimental and theoretical research in optical soliton transmission, high-speed optical systems, fibre grating technology, fibre optic sensors, all-optical networking, and microwave-optical transmission.

Information for international students

IELTS 6.0 (5.5 minimum in each section) or TOEFL 550 / 213 is required for applicants whose first language is not English.

Fees and funding

EPSRC and industry funding may be available only to UK / EU students. There are no scholarships available for non-EU students.
