Entry requirements

Students should normally have a year's full-time teaching experience in any field and a degree, or three years' experience if you don't have a degree. If your first language is not English, we will normally require you to have (or be expecting to obtain): IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component TOEFL 600 (250 computer-based, at least 100 Internet-based, with a minimum banding of 20 for Writing, Listening and Reading, and 22 for Speaking) An equivalent English Language qualification recognised by Aston University

Course content

The Certificate in Advanced Studies in ELT is intended for experienced and practising teachers. The course will help you to develop your understanding of both the theory and the practice of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching.
The course materials will introduce you to the main approaches and methods used in the ELT field, and you will be encouraged to reflect on the theory behind your own classroom practices. As a result of engaging with the coursework and through extensive background reading you will gain a greater insight into your own teaching practices.
