Course content

This PhD offers research training in ageing and cognitive health. PhD registration is offered in the Schools of Psychology, Social Sciences and Sports, Health and Exercise Sciences. Co-supervision across Schools, including the School of Medical Sciences, can be arranged where projects require a cross-disciplinary perspective. The Research in Ageing and Cognitive Health (REACH) in Psychology offers outstanding research training in clinical psychology and neuropsychology with a focus on psychosocial aspects of ageing, prevention of age-related cognitive disability, dementia and neurodegenerative conditions, and caregiving. The REACH team in Psychology offers outstanding research training in clinical psychology and neuropsychology with a focus on psychosocial aspects of ageing, prevention of age-related cognitive disability, dementia and neurodegenerative conditions, and caregiving. REACH in Social Science offers outstanding research training in Social Science with a focus on Health and Social Policy. The REACH team in Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences offers research training in exercise physiology with a focus on the musculoskeletal aspects of ageing, whether linked to healthy ageing per se or with dementia and neurodegenerative conditions. Ageing research within Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences can also be linked within the research groups investigating hydration and immune function, health and exercise rehabilitation in healthy older and clinical groups and exercise psychology (e.g. motivation to exercise).

The Research in Ageing and Cognitive Health (REACH) group offers research training in ageing and cognitive health, with a focus on our core themes: promoting well-being; preventing, reducing or delaying the onset of age-related disability; rehabilitation and care.
