Are you interested in reducing people’s impact on the planet? Do you want to learn how to reduce the environmental footprint of a business or organisation?
This Environmental Management course has been specifically developed to address growing environmental and sustainability pressures and create innovative solutions towards a resilient environment and society.
Tailor this environmental sustainability degree to your individual interests and career aspirations. Uniquely, you can incorporate Business and Management modules into the programme. This, coupled with our IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) accreditation, means you’ll be ideally placed to work in sustainable business – in addition to a variety of other environmental careers, including sustainability specialist, environmental manager or consultant, and entrepreneur.
COURSE STRUCTURE AND CONTENT
In the first two trimesters, we provide you with core knowledge and skills, in particular environmental systems and management tools, to work as an environmental professional instigating and managing change, data handling, and reporting. You’ll study contemporary issues, and benefit from talks from specialists in the environmental industry. Optional modules give you the opportunity to develop a greater depth of knowledge in several of these components, for example energy and waste management, ecosystem services and sustainability principles.
The third trimester is devoted to your independent research project where you’ll work with your supervisor on a topic of particular interest to you. This might be a project working with an industry partner and will allow you to demonstrate your environmental understanding in an area relevant to your interests and career.
You’ll tackle a range of assessment types, all with a strong emphasis on applying the skills you learn during your course to workplace scenarios. These include writing technical reports, presentations and the use of electronic media, such as developing a website. There are no written examinations.
YOUR FUTURE CAREER
Our graduates work in a range of environmental management roles. This course will particularly suit someone wishing to pursue a career in ecological consultancy, flooding control, corporate sustainability, energy efficiency or environmental hazards and pollution control.
This course has been approved by IEMA, the leading professional body for sustainability. As a graduate of this course you’ll be automatically eligible to add the professionally recognised GradIEMA suffix to your name, signifying you are part of the next generation of sustainability leaders and enabling you to fast track an application to practitioner with IEMA once you have gained sufficient experience.
