Entry requirements

Two years post qualified Social Worker, Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist in mental health. Be able to demonstrate your ability to study at this level of learning.

The course is aimed at people who have 2 years post qualification mental health experience and wish to practice as an approved mental health professional (AMHP) or existing AMHPs who wish to gain a Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in mental health, including a Higher Specialist award for registered social workers.

Course content

The course has been designed to meet the requirements for Approved Mental Health Professional Training as specified by the Health and Care Professions Council.

You are sponsored by employer partners who work in collaboration with the university to support you to engage and learn through a practice placement of 40 days.

The course allows you to explore the legal position of an AMHP and the ethical dilemmas and tensions involved in fulfilling their duties.

Knowledge applied learning involves the professional experience of practising AMHPs who contribute to the Learning and Teaching on the course.

On completion, you will be awarded 120 credits and a Postgraduate Diploma at level 7.
